Rye College

Educational Trips and Visits

At Rye College, we believe that educational visits are an integral part of every student’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum. Appropriately planned visits enhance learning and improve achievement, making them a key component of our supportive and effective learning environment.

The safety of students and colleagues during educational trips is paramount. Rye College follows the requirements and guidance from the ESCC Off-site Activities and Educational Visits Policy (August 2024) and refers to National Guidance produced by the Off-site Education Advisors Panel (OEAP).

Local (including UK based) and Overseas Trips

  • Local Trips: We take advantage of the rich history and geographical significance of our locality.  These trips help students connect with their community and understand its heritage.
  • Overseas Trips: Our international trips offer students the chance to travel abroad, understand different cultures, and practice speaking local languages.  These experiences broaden their global perspective and cultural awareness.

Benefits for students

  • Confidence and Self-Esteem: Many of our trips help students build confidence and self-esteem both in and out of school.
  • Motivation: Educational visits motivate students by providing real-world experiences that complement their classroom learning.
  • Unique Opportunities: Trips offer students the chance to visit destinations they might not otherwise have the opportunity to see, creating lasting memories.

Regardless of the destination, the skills and benefits our students gain from these experiences are truly invaluable.  They create enduring memories and contribute significantly to personal and academic growth.

Parental Consent

Parental consent for your child to participate in off-site activities and educational visits is sought in the following ways:

Low-risk trips and visits:

  • General Yearly Consent: Parents are asked to provide general, yearly consent through Arbor.  By confirming your consent, you are giving permission for your child to partake in all our low-risk trips and visits offered throughout your child’s Year 7 to Year 11 schooling at Rye College.
  • Withdrawal of Consent: You can choose to withdraw your child’s consent at any time by contacting the school office.

Higher-risk activities

  • Specific consent: At times, we offer more adventurous, adrenaline-pumping activities that have a higher element of risk and therefore require more specific consideration. When your child is invited on such a trip, we will contact you directly to seek permission to include your child.  You will be asked to provide specific consent through Arbor.

Please see below a list of the types of visits/activities that are not covered by the yearly consent procedure:
